I'm 29 years old.. Getting old I know..... But not the point. 29 years old and can say today I've had the best pizza of my life!! Just barely topping(pun intended) Little Caesars who sits at number 2. I'm joking... Little Caesars is terrible. The only reason I eat Little Caesars pizza is because it's hot and ready, $5 and I'm too hungry to wait for Pizza Hut after work.
Best pizza ever is extremely high praise, and it's located in a small-ish town at the top of the South Island of New Zealand. It's called dangerous kitchen and I felt dangerous going inside. It was empty, on a weekend! But me and my friends filled the place up.
I tried 5 different types of pizzas and I'm convinced there isn't a bad one on the menu! Our selections in order of likeability: smoked salmon, seafood, margherita, dangerous, and henny penny. You can see the menu for details of what's inside. I took a bite of that salmon pizza, I wanted to cry. But I was at a table full of my friends so I had to stay strong. It was like I was tasting food again for the first time. Perfectly baked. Topping ratio was perfect.
This pizza was so good on my way back to home me and the friends riding in my car stopped again to take 2 pizzas home LOL.
Dangerous kitchen huh?? This pizza must have drugs in it. I'm addicted. If it wasn't an hour and a half drive I would go every weekend!
They do more than just pizza, such as brunch items and a small lunch/dinner menu but c'mon.. You go here to eat pizza! They have a bar and live music at night, fun little vibe.
Staff is super friendly, they saved a table for us while the pizza cooked so we could walk around main street. Parking on the street. You can call ahead for takeout. Love this place!!
I've only given 6 stars a few times but this is that place.Helpful 38Thanks 0Love this 39Oh no 0 - Melodie G.Aix-en-Provence, France5037416 Jan 2020
Well wow! That was a great lunch - extremely filling and delicious! The queue was a little long but went relatively fast and the food was worth it!
The goat cheese on the hash browns is such an original and delicious pairing. The salad dressing and beetroot relish (which I'm not normally a fan of) were surprisingly great too! Would definitely go back and especially try those gorgeous looking pizzas I saw passing by!
My mother had the midnight cake which wasn't as a great as it looked sadly (tasting a bit too healthy for such a deliciously rich looking cake - bummer!)
The location is also cute! Go to the back and sit in the garden of the weather is right!
Recommend to all who are wanting great vegetarian food (which we've found hard to find)!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Terry W.Auckland4311227 Feb 2021
Great location. Funky vibe. Service patchy. Couple next to us - only one of their coffees arrived. Our trim milk in the tea clearly was not. Despite a table numbering system the waitresses routinely were misdelivering.
Great outdoor section. Would not be hard to sort the stuff that let them down.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Wilma M.Amsterdam, The Netherlands0624920 Aug 2018
During our stay in Takaka, we fully enjoyed the atmosphere of this hippy-like town. We entered the Dangerous Kitchen on our first day and found out that the same atmosphere prevailed in this restaurant. Relaxed atmosphere (don't worry be happy), friendly staff, good bites and ditto drinks and coffee! Don't expect French cuisine or something similar. Takaka is not the place for that kind of food. The Dangerous Kitchen became our favourite hangout during our holiday in Takaka!

After a five day backpack, I was dreaming of gluten-free free pancakes. Thought that there was almost zero chance of finding that, but as it turns out this place isn't a mirage! Amazing food! Awesome for gluten-free, organic, and just plain delicious eats.

This is definitely the best place to hang out in Takaka. Great pizza and coffee, friendly staff and fun social scene. You definitely feel like a local when you eat here!

Great service, solid music, cool vibe, AMAZiNG food. We had and loved the Popeye pizza and the Mexican burrito, with a couple craft ciders and beers on the sunny back patio.
The illustrated entrance is worth a visit all on its own. Funny, subtle and super skillfuly done.
To boot, DK sits in the midst of some fun small art galleries and great handcraft shops filled with friendly folks.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 1 Feb 2015First to Review
I would give them five stars if they offered whole-grain gnocchi's, pasta, muffins, bread, and other grains. Otherwise, everything was absolutely delicious. Just could be slightly more healthy. Quality of food is unbelievably good, Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Best pizza that we've had anywhere in New Zealand in the last three months. Artichokes on the pizza were especially tasty.

The pizza crust was very manufacture. The margarhita pizza had small flakes of an herb that we question if it was even basil vs using a real full leaf. There was little difference between that margharita pizza and the cheese pizza a child ordered. Both were overly cheesy with not enough sauce. The olive appetizer used bread you would buy from a bag at the store vs being made fresh. Way, way overrated!
